The Media Complaints Commission has admitted for hearing a complaint filed against Nation Media Group PLC over an episode of NTV’s Murder Tapes series focusing on the death of former D.Light Chief Executive Officer Nick Imudia.

The complaint was lodged by Mr. Imudia’s widow, Ms. Marita A.E.H. Imudia, on her own behalf and on behalf of her minor children. She alleges that the programme, titled “How Former D.Light CEO Nick Imudia Was Blackmailed to Death,” violated the Code of Conduct for Media Practice, 2025.

In the complaint, Ms. Imudia raises several concerns, including claims that the episode was broadcast during the watershed period despite its sensitive subject matter, that the family was not given an opportunity to respond, and that private family matters were disclosed without sufficient justification.

She further contends that the programme presented material involving children in a manner that failed to adequately safeguard their best interests.

Nation Media Group has denied the allegations, arguing that the documentary met the legal and ethical standards applicable to journalism. The media house maintains that the episode dealt with matters of public interest, including alleged blackmail, mental health, and pressures faced by senior corporate executives.

In admitting the complaint, the Commission emphasised that the decision does not amount to a finding of wrongdoing. It stated that the matter raises questions within its legal mandate and should be examined through the dispute resolution mechanisms provided under the Media Council Act.

The matter will now proceed to mediation or adjudication, where both parties will be allowed to present evidence before the Commission issues a final determination.
